Its not the most elegant plan out there i feel but it seems to have worked for now. if you will notice up top there is a new page tab called Twitter Updates. This is exactly what it says it is. it is a feed of all my twitter updates. At least this implementation is cleaner than the failed twitter tools fiasco of yesterday. I don’t claim that this new feature is terribly functional, after all why wouldn’t you just read my twitter updates on twitter itself, but whatever. its all cool. Thats all for now.

Well this has not worked out exactly how i had expected. I know i have not been posting to my blog all that often as of late (ok, i mean as of “ever”) but i have started to twitter a bit. not a ton, but some. So i thought i would look up some plugins for wordpress that pulled my tweets down and also sent any actual posts up to twitter. What i failed to take into account was that as of recently a large number of my tweets have been auto generated by Raptr. Also was the fact that most of my tweets don’t make a lick of sense out of context. So when Twitter Tools pulled all my tweets down it really mangled my front page. Don’t get me wrong the plugin does behave exacatly as the author intended, and it would have rendered much better results if i were better at actually posting to my blog. but when the front page turns into nothing but a page full of disjointed tweets (here is a screenshot of what that looked like) and no “real” (i use that word loosely) content it is not so useful. So i guess i am now on the hunt for another way to tie the 2 together. I will still use Twitter tools to update twitter when i post to my blog, so thats something at least.

I saw this article over at lockergnome.com, and i did link it in my shared google reader. But i wanted to post a copy of it here directly as well. This is what we have all been fearing for a while now. Its true, but what makes it worse is that Microsoft’s “resolution” feature is broken. here you go, read for yourself

The WGA kill switch did kick in when I scheduled a chkdsk to run on next reboot. They are lying about it not kicking in – the keyboard was LOCKED – there was no prior notification – those WGA screens came up AFTER the keyboard was locked. Computer came up only in SAFE MODE. Corporate customer. When I clicked on RESOLVE now, it went to a go.microsoft site THAT NO LONGER EXISTS. I have witnesses to all this.

Computer was purchased 2 years ago.

Took it to Best Buy at 8pm. Best Buy looked at the hologram sticker and said the computer was genunine. Someone there mentioned the reseller – a MAJOR NORTHERN CALIFORNIA NAME – had been cited for non-genuine licenses, but that it was in the newspapers. This reseller was ALSO burned by Microsoft themselves. While acknowledging our company had been swindled, none of this was fair business practice, they offered their “911 service” – meaning, 24-hour turnaround – which would have cost us $900 dollars. They tried to figure out a way to lower the cost to us. However, all our biz programs would have to be reloaded. This means we’re SOL for 3 days.

So who knows what exactly is going on, except somewhere along the line a racketeer is being protected, and I’ll slam that on Bill Gates desk. The buck stops there.

Well, i seem to be settling into my new home here at minorforces just fine. My site needed a new look from the old rather dated one that i at on my movable type install. i found this current theme to me liking. it is crisp and clean and gives me the 3 column layout i very much like. Some day i do want to make my own theme, but that involves a lot of work that i don’t foresee having the time to put into any time soon. what with all the actually coming up with a design, learning enough pHp to monkey around in the template files and then figuring out how i want to do all the CSS styling.

I did however put up a new page that you can see up top (or somewhere on the site depending on the current theme) that lists my anime collection. I am not bragging or anything but i do direct a few of my friends or acquaintances to my site to see what i have that i might lend them. and rather than just posting a new post whenever i update it, i will just keep the constant page.

thats all for this post. hopefully it won’t be to dated by the time folks read it, my site is in constant flux still, so i don’t know when or how it will ever change.

Hey folks, I finally registered a domain name and here it is. www.minorforces.net is the new home what was “the·webpage”. Please update your bookmarks (all like 3 of you) accordingly.

I tried getting the domain name of thewebpage.net but it was taken as well as several others. i settled on minorforces.net because it was able to convey sort of the same meaning and spirit as my page. That this page like so many similar to it are just small and rather insignificant specs in the greater picture of the internet. I have ported all of my old posts over to new new and fresh install of wordpress. i have ditched movable type as it is not as friendly to themes and plugins and also for the fact that it is no longer free. I like wordpress because it is still open source and HIGHLY customizable. i do have a task ahead of me of learning enough PHP to design my own theme.

that brings me to my last note, and that is that this site will be undergoing changes consistently and continually for a time to come. it is no secret that i am perpetually bad updating or posting to my page at any regular interval, and i also have a tendency to use my page mostly as a proof of concept staging ground for my ideas. I will try to post more frequently as i am now actually paying for my internet presence instead of just leeching off others, but the rest of my previous behavior will probably continue. I will be working on and tweaking the theme and layout as much as i can in the near furture. (well first i have to come up with an idea for a theme) If i can get any of my friends interested in my site there may be even more uses for it (i really hope so) such as a Bulletin Board forum, or a wiki, or a number of others. I will hopefully be posting a site contact email soon and possibly some other pages as well as just the post sections. Keep me on your radars but i don’t know what i will get accomplished when exactly.

Well this is good news, it would appear that the migration of my webpage over to dreamhost has been a smashing success. I know i have been VERY remiss in actually maintaing/using my website, so i might not normally care a lot when my friend, who was hosting my page, decided he needed to take it down. But in this case i was also using my MT install to host my girlfriend’s blog as well. So when an opportunity presented itself to actually purchase webspace and get a crazy, touched in the head kind of way, good deal on space/bandwidth/features, i had to jump on it. So now dreamhost will be the new home of thewebpage for the next 2 years at least. I am in the process of trying to acquire a domain name, so my URL might change, but i will be able to give warning and set up redirect pages this time.

so i was reading a story on news.com this morning about how Tiger Direct is sueing Apple over their use of the word “tiger” as the nickname for their new operating system version. this got me thinking about how a while back we were hearing stories about microsoft trying to copyright the word “windows”. It is such a sad world we are living in when companies start believing that just because they have enough mony they can buy ANYTHING including and i would assume not limited to the english language. Thats messed up!

So we have Microsoft buying “windows” and tiger direct buying “tiger” (essentially). appearently no one stopped to think about the fact that these are not conceptts made up by these companies for the sole purpose of being marketing tools. i know it is a shocker, but long before these companies existed, in fact long before current systems of ownership even existed windows and tigers existed.

Whats next? I imagine that abstract concepts will be next on the list. i envision bill gates michael eisner and george lucus sitting around in bill’s… oh lets say spaceship (oh you know he has one, he has everything else) brainstorming. They come up with the idea to buy the word/idea of “four”, and replace it with threive. (then Lorne Michaels and/or Jimmy Fallon come along and sue them) What a grand old world we live in.

Ok, so i think i have made it no secret that i watch a lot of TV, and occasionally its the little things in comercials that spark some of my best/oddest ideas. So i was watching Moulin Rouge and during one of the breaks, a commercial came on MBNA credit cards. in it they were comparing the Kentucky Derby and NASCAR. I saw this and thought, “thats a great idea!” I am not a huge fan of either NASCAR or horse racing, but i think i would watch drivers race horses (and possibly to a lesser extent jockies race cars). its just an idea, but i think it could pull in enough cash to not sneeze at for some charity or another.

(on anither note i think i will be creating a new category for randomness just such as this)
