So i was checking out slashdot and an article caught my eye, it was referencing what appears to be another less than fully thought out idea by Mr. Bill.
Slashdot | Bill Gates Proclaims End of Passwords
KrazyK writes “Bill Gates has just proclaimed the end of passwords. There’s only one drawback – you have to use .Net (well, what else would you expect?). However, the smart card that is at the centre of it – made by Axalto – is still a great bit of technology. How long before we can get an open-source version of this?”
Upon further reading it appears to be a less than fully thought out plan-in-action being pursued by microsoft.
Bill Gates has made .Net the way into Microsoft – literally. Smart cards from Axalto have been commissioned as ID passes for all employees around the world, and the cards will be used to gain access to the buildings, as well as to get into software.
This whole idea seems frought with holes. Let me give you an example:
Micro$oft Drone: I’m just calling in becaue i can’t get into work today.
Boss: Don’t you mean you can’t ‘come’ into work today?
M$D: No, i got mugged last night and the guy got my ID card.
B: So why can’t you come in anyways?
M$D: Well, i can’t get into the building, i can’t log onto my computer, i can’t get into any of my software or websites. but if you want me to come to work and stand in the parking lot shouting obsecenities, i would be more than glad to do that.
I think i have made my point. or at least made some folks laugh. I think i will keep my passwords for now, thankyou very much microsoft.
